SFU Tour

SFU TOUR (October 15th 2011)

@Mocheese:

Started off with:
-Signing in+ getting our package and name tag

-Eating cookies and muffins (free food! :D)

We explored a bit and we took some pictures:

(fyi, it's Jenny's reflection)

We happened to choose the darkest wing to take pictures in, but overall SFU is much brighter looking xD. We didn't have time to take other photos and this is all we got.

-We went got a presentation about SFU in general and we got into groups to get a tour around SFU (this building is like a giant box, it's all connected in a sqaure-like shape)

Notable Things:
-SFU has a nice view
-Some of the grass is so green it looks fake o.o
-There are really quiet study areas. You're allowed to stay in some areas for 24hours. If you feel unsafe you can call a guard and they will escort you wherever.
-There is a pond with a lot of fishies! (I believe is 錦鯉)
-Activity fees and the UPass is a mandatory payment, whether you use it or not.
-They make pretty slide shows
-Need an average of mid 80% for admissions
-The Track Field is named after Terry Fox. He attended SFU and was part of the junior varsity basketball team in 1977
-Choosing your field is very flexible- if you feel like changing your Major/Minor etc. you are allowed to at any time. If you feel like you don't enjoy your certain area of study, you aren't stuck in that area.

About Residences:
-All have individual housing (with the exception of the Townhouses, I think you share it with friends etc.)
-First years need a meal plan (no personal kitchen), Second years and above you can get your own food.
-Dorms will have advisers to help you ease into the new environment

There are three campuses, Burnaby, Surrey, Vancouver (which is common for most Contemporary Art program students to be in).

We finished off by going to the breakout sessions for the programs we might like to take.

The Packages we received looked like this:
